Salby Damned

By: Ian D Moore

The people of Salby knew shale gas fracking was a bad idea – they just didn’t know how bad.

An explosion unleashes one of science’s deadliest creations upon the town. Nathan Cross, smalltime reporter, is hired by Evelyn Shepherd, a mysterious council leader, to investigate.

In a battle against corruption, with the ever-present threat of infection, they must find a cure or bear witness to the extinction of humanity.

Dead Men Walking…

  • by Tom Benson

An engrossing tale of: action, bravery, fear and suspense with more than a hint of romance thrown into the mix. This is a credible debut novel by the author and he has done a good job of bringing together: relationships, the un-dead, government experiments and shale-fracking, which in itself is a topical issue.
I’ve never seen a zombie film – really. I’ve never read a zombie story prior to this one, and this one isn’t zombies in the usual horror movie style. I dived in with an open mind, just as I do with any genre that is new to me. What I found was, instead of smirking at the idea of people with glazed expressions and lumps of flesh missing, I was drawn in to the story within the first few paragraphs.
Nathan, the central character will appeal to the ladies because he’s rugged and ready to tackle danger head-on. He’ll defend those that are less able to do so. He’ll appeal to the guys, because he’s a man’s man, in a macho sort of way. I liked the portrayal from the outset.
This is a great piece of storytelling, which is why you should invest in the author’s brand and push him to write more. He is in possession of that most important ingredient – the desire to tell a story.
In summary, I found what I always look for in a book: good imagery, believable characters, natural dialogue and a great plot. There is a strong hint that there will be a sequel and it will be on my TBR list.
